The episode opens with Edward and Alphonse Elric still recovering from the events of the previous episode, in which they witnessed the death of Nina Tucker and her father’s homunculus. Edward is particularly shaken by this experience and begins to question whether or not he should continue his quest for the Philosopher’s Stone.
Meanwhile, Al discovers a clue in Tucker’s research that suggests the Philosopher’s Stone may be hidden in the ruins of the Fifth Lab. Edward is reluctant to investigate, but Al convinces him that they need to find out if the Philosopher’s Stone can actually return their bodies to them.
The Elric brothers travel to the ruins of the Fifth Laboratory where they encounter a group of Homunculi led by Lust. Homunculi are after the Philosopher’s Stone as well and are willing to kill anyone who gets in their way.
Edward and Al are forced to fight for their lives and eventually manage to defeat Lust and her minions. However, they fail to find the Philosopher’s Stone and are left without an answer.
The episode ends with Edward and Al returning to Central City, still no closer to their goal of finding the Philosopher’s Stone. However, they are determined to continue their search, whatever the cost.
