Lt. Hawkeye returns home and mistakes her dog Hayate for Pride for a second as she is still stunned to find out that Selim Bradley is a Homunculus and what he told her about watching from the shadows. Riza is then contacted by Colonel Mustang on the phone, posing as a flower seller. He asks her to get some flowers in addition to asking what’s going on. Hawkeye has to refuse to talk about it and also doesn’t want flowers because he doesn’t have flower vases. Meanwhile, Major Miles reports to Kimblee and his men that reports indicate that Scar is likely hiding in their current location, the abandoned mining town of Baschool. Miles says that the search will be divided into teams and that any sightings must be reported. Darius and Heinkel decide to accompany the Elric brothers. Elric manages to slip them through by faking observation and creating a fake alchemy wall inside the building. Ed realizes that finding Scar and the girl will be harder than he thought since this town is so big. By sheer luck, May finds them in the building they are hiding in.

After Al admits that they’ve been looking for her, May, with her overactive imagination, believes it’s for love, ignoring that he’s actually trying to learn more about Alkahestri from her. Al hears a clatter and realizes he forgot Winry was inside his armor and quickly lets her go. Like a crush, May wants to know who he is. Doctor Marcoh then arrives and shows the Elrics that his face has been changed. Yoki arrives next, and it takes the Elrics a while to barely remember him. Yoki then explains his story of how he was a mine inspector in Youswell (who unfairly abused people) until Ed tricked him into giving him the deed in exchange for gold bars, which he later found out to be fake. Yoki states that after being kicked out of the state army, he tried a series of adventures to get his life back on track, including investing in a casino, but failed. Yoki also tried to break into the mansion owned by the Armstrong family, but the 2nd and 3rd daughter Amue and Strongine Armstrong caught him and forced him to flee to where the youngest daughter Catherine Elle Armstrong was. A timid Catherine then threw the piano at him, knocking him into the distance where the Ishvalan camp was and Yoki was found by Rick and his grandfather. It was then that Yoki swore revenge on the Elric brothers for his plight.

However, the Elrics ignore him as they are busy interacting with May and Dr. by Marco. Kimblee is informed that Winry is missing and Miles sets out with two of the team to look for her. Meanwhile, Scar is confronted by Jerso and Zampano in another location. At first, he is confident that he can defeat them until both men transform into their full chimeric forms. Ed tells Scar’s group what he has learned since their last meeting, how to make the Philosopher’s Stone, the history of Amestris, and that there is something special about their alchemy. Ed admits that that’s why they got May, to learn more about Alkahestria. Marcoh then mentions that someone figured it out first and documented it in a book full of his research notes, but first they’ll need Scar’s help to fully decipher it before they can find the answers. Hearing the sounds of battle, the Elrics notice that he is in the direction that Scar is, and they head out on their own.

Scar has trouble fighting both Jers and Zampan because they know his fighting style and stick to ranged combat so Scar can’t affect them with his decomposition technique, leaving him with no choice but to avoid their chimera based attacks. After injuring his left arm, Scar is held by Jers’ saliva so he cannot escape. The Elrics then arrive, and after Al recognizes their voices as two of the men Kimblee brought, they pretend they can’t recognize them as monsters, which they can use as an excuse to take out Zampan. Ed dodges Jers spit and finds that he is much lighter as his automail has been adjusted to a cold resistant temperature and being overconfident Ed gets some spit on his arm as his punches are now lighter as well. Luckily, Ed knows what saliva is and moves under Jerso and turns the saliva on his hands into water before turning it into ice to attach to Jerso’s back. Ed then purposely attaches Al to Jers’ back to tie him up. Zampano then attacks and tells him to stop hitting him and Jerso and that he’s on Ed’s side, but Ed tricks him into reversing his transformation to prove it and then knocks him out before Zampano can fully revert to his human form . Al then ties Jerso’s neck to render him unconscious.

After freeing himself, Scar confronts the Elrics, only to find that he can no longer destroy Ed’s automail, as its upgrade has given it new metallic substances in addition to steel to make it resistant to cold temperatures. Ed then kicks Scar in the leg, who then reacts by aiming for the ground to catch Elric by surprise. Before Scar can focus on Ed’s face, Winry intervenes, allowing the Elrics to knock him back in the confusion, and Al then chains Scar’s right arm to the wall with alchemy. When Ed demands why she came, Miles arrives with his team. He orders his men to tie up Jers and Zampan and is ready to arrest Scar for his crimes, even though he is also part of his own people. Winry then approaches Scar and demands that the Elrics and Miles speak to him, but all he tells her is an apology, despite having killed her parents.

An explosion then occurs outside the building. Back in the tunnel under Fort Briggs, Captain Buccaneer believes their twenty-four hours are up as they had to slowly make their way back without light in case of a monster. However, it turns out that the tunnel has not yet been sealed and they return to the surface because Armstrong deliberately gave the team in charge of sealing it a stopwatch. The Buccaneer then reports to Major General Armstrong and tells her that only two members of the reserve have survived. As Armstrong comments on the beauty of the Briggs Mountain landscape, Buccaneer can only thank her with the faulty watch that saved them from being sealed in a tunnel she has no idea what she’s talking about. A military party then arrives with a man demanding that Armstrong foot the bill for something, though she and the Buccaneer can tell something is coming. Back at the Baschool, Kimblee watches the explosion from the building the Elrics are in just as Ed runs out and claims that because Winry wasn’t watching, she has now been taken hostage by Scar, who is then seen on the roof holding her. his hand.
