The chapter opens with Ed and Al in the tunnels under the city of Central, trying to track down the Pride homunculus. They are accompanied by several members of Briggs’ army, including Major Miles and Captain Buccaneer. As they make their way through the tunnels, they come across a mysterious door that leads to a large chamber filled with tanks.Inside the tanks, they discover a horrifying sight – dozens of human bodies, all connected to pipes and wires, used as a power source for a massive transmutation ring. Ed realizes that this is the secret of the homunculi’s immortality – they constantly use the souls of these human victims to keep themselves alive.As they try to process this information, they are suddenly attacked by a group of homunculi – Pride, Gluttony, Envy and Wrath. The Briggs soldiers fight bravely, but they are no match for the power of the homunculi. Ed and Al use their alchemy to hold off the homunculi, but quickly realize they are outnumbered and outnumbered.Just when all hope seems lost, an unexpected ally arrives – Scar, a former Ishvalan warrior. Scar reveals that he has been working behind the scenes to gather information on the homunculi and discovered their weakness – the transmutation ring that powers their immortality. With Scar’s help, Ed and Al are able to destroy the ring, causing the homunculi to lose their immortality and greatly weakening them.The chapter ends with the Briggs soldiers preparing for a final assault on the weakened homunculi.
