Summary:
The chapter begins with a flashback of a conversation between Hohenheim and his father about the promised day. Hohenheim warns the father that his plan to become a god is foolish and that humans will never stop seeking knowledge and understanding. Father dismisses Hohenheim’s concerns and tells him that he will create a perfect world where people will not have to search for anything.Back in the present, the promised day has arrived. Mustang and his team prepare to take down Central Command while Edward, Alphonse and their allies fight their way into Father’s lair. Meanwhile, Father prepares to use the souls of the people of Amestris to become a god.As the battle rages, Alphonse realizes that he can use his alchemy to transform souls. He manages to transmute the souls of the people in the Father’s lair, including the souls of the Homunculi, to weaken the Father.Mustang and his team manage to take down Central Command, but are confronted by Envy, who is now a giant monster. Envy reveals that he was the one who killed Mustang’s best friend, Maes Hughes. Enraged, Mustang uses his flames to burn Envy to death.In the father’s lair, Edward and his allies confront the father. The father reveals that he has absorbed God’s power, but Edward tells him that he cannot create a perfect world because people will always seek knowledge and understanding. Edward then uses his alchemy to open the Gate of Truth and trap the father inside.The chapter ends with Alphonse sacrificing his own soul to bring Edward back to the world of the living. As the battle draws to a close, the people of Amestris are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered world.
