As Edward looks on, Lust quickly finishes off the older Slicer brother, slicing his helmet in half with her claws, while Envy dispatches the younger one by repeatedly impaling his Blood Run with her sword, furiously cursing the Slicers for nearly killing one. their precious human sacrifices and the revelation of their secrets. Envy greets Fullmetal and jokes that they should kill the dwarf for making it this far, prompting Edward to pounce. Unfortunately, as he prepares for another fight, his automatic arm eventually gives way and lays helplessly at his side. Envy gleefully knees Ed in the stomach, knocking him unconscious, while Lust orders the alchemist to remember that his life was spared here on purpose. As Edward passes out, Lust and Envy discuss eradicating the Fifth Lab as its usefulness has ended and their plan is in its final stages.Outside, pondering number 66’s claim that his soul is a fabrication, Alphonse remembers that Edward had mentioned in Resembool that there was something important he wanted to talk about, but was always too afraid to bring it up, and wonders if what he wanted was talking about not being real. Taking advantage of Al’s distracted state, Barry gains the upper hand, but before he can deliver the finishing blow, 2nd Lt. Ross and Sgt. Brosh appear on the scene, each shooting a 66 in the hand and demanding that he back off from Alphonse. However, suddenly an explosion inside the laboratory shook the premises and caused the equipment to collapse. Terrified, Al claims that his brother is still inside and tries to go after him, but Lt. Ross holds him back, warning that the falling debris will crush him as well. Barry sees his opportunity to escape and flees during the ensuing chaos. Before Alphonse can break free to save his brother, Envy breaks through the collapsing wall with an unconscious Edward slung over his shoulder. He tells Al and Maria to rush Edward to the hospital and asks them to make sure he doesn’t put himself in harm’s way again because he is a very valuable resource. As Envy flees, the Elrics and soldiers try to make a quick retreat from the area. Meanwhile, 66 watches Lab 5 collapse from afar and decides that with his facility demolished and his partner dead, his best option is to roam the night and avoid capture. In the central prison next door, most of the inmates panic at the sound of the facility collapsing, but inmate Solf J. Kimblee recognizes the familiar sound of explosives destroying the building and cheerfully notes that it reminds him of the Ishval Civil War. As the guards discuss Kimblee’s reputation as a mad arsonist, it is revealed that Kimblee’s handcuffed hands are tattooed with transmutation circles.The next morning, Edward wakes up in a hospital bed and is told by Denny that they are at a small clinic run by one of Maria’s friends, as the state-run hospital could cause complications. When Ed angrily complains that the truth Marcoh was talking about was so close and laments that there is no time for him to lie in a hospital bed, Ross slaps him across the face and scolds him for running off alone without trusting them. But as he apologizes for putting them in place, Ed realizes that his still-corrupted automail means he’s in for another reprimand. He immediately calls Winry and informs her about his broken arm, but to his surprise, she cheerfully agrees to come visit him in the capital for some homework – realizing the true cause of his damage, of course. As Brosh takes Ed back to his room, they notice Al sitting alone in a dark corner. Although Al feigns satisfaction, he is still troubled by Barry’s suggestion that he himself is not human.
