Summary:

“Father Homuncula,” the story begins with the aftermath of the battle between the heroes and the father. The Homunculus has been defeated and the portal to Truth is still open. When the dust settles, the heroes take stock of the situation. Scar, Hohenheim, and May Chang all survive the battle, but Alphonse s missing. Desperately searching for his brother, Ed finds him lying unconscious on the ground.Meanwhile, Hohenheim has a conversation with the ghost of his wife Trisha, who appears before him in the form of a glowing orb. Trisha tells Hohenheim that he fulfilled his fatherly duty by defeating his father and stopping his evil plans. She also tells him that he can now rest in peace, but Hohenheim insists that he cannot leave until he finds a way to bring back everyone who was lost in the transmutation circle. As Hohenheim talks with Trisha, the heroes begin to realize that the portal to Truth is not only a gateway to power, but also a gateway to the afterlife. They speculate that the father created the Homunculus as a way to escape death and live forever. They also realize that the Father is not truly immortal and that his power comes from the souls he has collected over the years. As the heroes prepare to close the portal, they are confronted by the true form of the Homunculus, which has merged with the souls in the portal to become a massive, dark creature. The creature attacks the heroes, but they manage to hold it off long enough for Ed to activate his alchemy and close the portal for good. After the portal closes, the shadowy being fades into nothingness, leaving the heroes to mourn the loss of their fallen comrades. Hohenheim, Scar, and May Chang begin their journey back to their countries, while Ed and Al prepare to return home to Resembool.
