Summary:

The storm continues and Winry tells the others what to do to help her. Paninya is concerned and asks Edward if Winry should really give birth to the child, to which he says that he has to trust her. He explains that Winry comes from a family of doctors, but Paninya claims that Winry doesn’t really have any real training, so Edward boldly states that Winry will have to do it from memory, ignoring Paninya’s doubts. Winry tries her best to remember all the important things to do in childbirth as Ed and Al wish her luck. Winry, now confident, proceeds to the bedroom and asks Paninya for help. Satella goes through labor with her husband Ridel by her side. Edward and Alphonse wait quietly outside and Dominic is seen on his way into town for a doctor. The bedroom is quiet and that makes Elric listen at the door. Then Satella starts screaming in pain, causing Ed and Al to panic and huddle together. Edward admits that he is actually scared and Alphonse agrees with him. Ed states that all they can do now is ‘pray to God’ even though they are agnostics. After a while, Paninya falls out of the bedroom door. Her face is full of horror as Ed and Al try to figure out what happened. The brothers look into the bedroom and see Winry sitting on the floor. Edward asks what happened, to which Winry points forward and directs Ed to look. Ridel holds her new son after cutting the umbilical cord. The new mother and father smile at Ed and show that the baby is fine. The brothers are filled with joy and jubilation. Edward then taunts Paninya about her fear of blood because that’s why she collapsed in the first place. Ridel hands the baby to his wife and tells her that she did well and that she has Winry to thank. Winry tells them it’s time to clean up the baby while Ed and Al dance.Satella holds her baby while Edward expresses his excitement over the newborn. Winry tells Ed that she sounds like a child, and Ed replies that it’s because it’s the miracle of life. He then explains how alchemists have tried for centuries to do what a woman can do in 280 days (usually nine months). Winry gets upset and tells Ed not to compare the miracle of life with science. Edward apologizes and expresses his amazement again. He praises Winry, which pleases her, and she tells him to keep it up. Edward asks if there is anything else to do and Winry asks Ed to carry her as she has lost feeling in her legs. Ed complies and she says it’s a shame that a guy smaller than her is carrying her. Edward remarks that he might drop her and that she’s not cute. Winry then decides to tell him that she saw what was in his pocket watch.Ed immediately drops her and starts to lose his temper, with Winry saying that dropping her hurt. He angrily yells at her for forcing his pocket watch open, so Winry apologizes. Then he helps her into the chair and sits next to her, still unhappy. He tells her that he didn’t even show Al what was inside. Winry asks why, and Edward admits that it’s a constant reminder he carries with him, admitting that it’s stupid to do that. Winry starts crying and Edward asks her why. She replies that she is crying for both brothers because Al is physically unable and Edward refuses to cry. He then calls her a dummy and tells her that she should go back home to keep her grandma company because Pinako must be lonely right now. Winry claims she won’t go home and is now determined to find out more about the automatic mail after finding out what Ed has been hiding. He declares that Dominika will once again ask for an apprenticeship. Edward wishes her luck but is interrupted when Paninya enters the hall. Paninya tells Winry to go back to her new parents, but then Ed hits Paninya for stealing his pocket watch.Dominic shows a completely different personality than before as he is excited about his new grandson. The doctor notes that both mother and child are in good health and praises Winry for her first delivery. Edward is blamed for the premature birth because Al believed that when Ed rubbed Satelli’s belly, his impatience was transferred to the baby. Dominic thanks Winry, who humbly states that she really didn’t do much. Edward gets an idea and asks Dominic if he will accept Winry as an apprentice and Dominic declines. He is grateful for her help but doesn’t want an apprentice and tells her she should go to her family. Al mentions Pinako, which seems to scare Dominic. She asks if they mean Pinako Rockbell, and when he says yes, she freaks out even more. A scar is shown on his chin as he recalls horrible memories of Pinako, suggesting that it could have been her. He then completely rejects Winry as an apprentice, knowing that she is related to Pinako, but offers to introduce her to someone who will teach her. He says Winry won’t be teaching, but if she should visit his grandson, he’ll let her watch him work. He also says that the other three, Ed, Al, and Paninya could also return. Ridel gives them directions on how to get back to town, so Paninya, Winry, Ed and Al leave.

When they arrive back at Rush Valley, they find that the train to Dublith is already leaving, so Ed and Al have to run to catch up. Winry and Paninya also run. Winry tells them to have a safe trip and Ed tells her to study hard. He also reminds her to call Pinako and she yells at her because she didn’t have to remind her since he’s the one who doesn’t call. Edward eventually tells her to steal all the tech she can from Dominic to improve Ed’s automail. Accepts. Later, Winry calls Pinako to inform her that she will be training at Rush Valley and that Ed is going to see his old teacher. She encourages Winry and hangs up the phone. Looking around, Pinako realizes that the house is empty with no children around, only Den. Den tries to comfort her, but she turns around the broom and shoos the dog away, claiming she’s not lonely. He looks at the picture of the trio and acknowledges that all the children go their own way.Ed and Al arrive in Dublith to the meat shop. They both hope they won’t see their teacher, even though that’s what they traveled there for. Mason surprises them and impresses them with how much they’ve grown, well, at least Al. Mason decides to go see his boss, who happens to be Sig Curtis. Ed and Al start sweating profusely and shaking.
