Summary:
“Chain of Negativity, Pebble of Good,” Edward and Alphonse try to come up with a plan to stop the homunculi from opening the gate to the “Promised Day.” Realizing that the homunculi need a large number of souls to open the gate, they decide to try to prevent any more souls from being sacrificed.Meanwhile, Scar and May Chang are in the sewers trying to find the location of the homunculi lair. They are attacked by Envy, who is disguised as an Amestrian soldier. Scar and May are able to escape, but Envy takes advantage of the chaos and kidnaps Dr. Marcoha.Returning to Central, Roy Mustang is visited by his former subordinate, Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye. She tells him that she has found a way to unlock the secret of his flame alchemy, but Roy is hesitant to let her continue, knowing it will put her in danger.Later, Edward and Alphonse go to visit Izumi Curtis, their former teacher, who lives in the mountains. She tells them that she discovered a way to bring back Alphonse’s body without sacrificing someone else’s soul. He explains that there is a Philosopher’s Stone hidden in the mountain that they can use, but warns them that the journey to get it will be dangerous.As the chapter draws to a close, Envy delivers Dr. Marco’s father, who is pleased with Enva’s success. However, Envy is clearly troubled by his actions and wonders if he made the right decision. The chapter ends with a reflection on the nature of good and evil.
